Hurrivan Sandy caused colossal damage ont the east coast
that Fall of 2012, but somehow my house od Staten Island
escaped the storm's wrath. The neighbotrs weren't so lucky. Felled trees, roofs ripped away, major flooding. I knew what i was
to have someines home upended.
My fathere died wneh i was 18. He was burried a week before my graduation in 1963. My uncle, my fathers brother came in and stood in hid shoes for many years he was there for me. Whether he was there trying to appreciate the 60"s rock tunes, or danceing with me at my wedding in his size 11EEE shoes. I'd never forget dresses for second weddings
that he rescued me whenmy home lo=ife was in termoil, and remainded by myside like a father figure for the rest of hei life.
He made me want to give back to other families on crisis.
noe was my chance . I volunteered at a red cross sheelter hopinh to bring relief to the hurricane victums in my area,. One afternoon
i was sorting out v=clothes and shoes that had been donated,
I was pairing shoes that had been separated from its' mate. I pulled out one brown mens dress shoe so i keeeept digging around until I found the second shoe. WHen I found if I held them up to make sure they were a pair, they mwere a match both were size 11EEE. Clearyly mu ubcle was still around.Amen.
